Postgraduate Diploma in Policy Analysis

The Postgraduate Diploma in Policy is a one-year, part-time programme that focuses on improving the policy-analysis skills of Irish public servants. It responds to a palpable need for greater understanding of project management, economic and financial analysis, social policy analysis, cost benefit analysis and data analysis.

Audience

This programme is open to public servants of all grades who are concerned with policy analysis.

Delivery and Duration

The Postgraduate Diploma is delivered through lectures at the IPA in Dublin and can be taken one day per week over two years or two days a week over one year.

Year One

  • Elements of Economic Analysis
  • Financial Analysis
  • Statistical Reasoning and Analysis
  • Policy Evaluation
  • Strategy & Modernisation

Year Two

  • Economic Evaluation and Cost-Benefit Analysis
  • Project and Risk Management
  • Public Sector Economics
  • Research Methods and Applied Statistics
  • Social Policy Analysis


Subject Accumulation

Students who do not wish to take all the subjects may choose to study one or two on a phased basis. Students who do not need the full qualification can choose particular subjects of interest.

 Accreditation

The Postgraduate Diploma in Policy Analysis is accredited by the National University of Ireland (NUI) and is positioned at level nine on the National Framework of Qualifications.

Progression

Students who successfully complete the programme will be eligible to proceed to a further year of study for a Master’s qualification.

Enrolment Procedures

Prospective students should have an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification.
To enrol, obtain and complete and application from the Graduate Office at the IPA and return it with:

  • one copy of your degree or equivalent qualification
  • one passport-type photograph
  • the programme fee
  • a letter from your employer confirming that fees will be paid directly to the IPA.
