Changes in accounting practices and the devolution of budget responsibility across the whole of the public service alongside a requirement for accountability and value for money have increased the need for financial skills in staff at all levels in all organisations. Our financial management education, training and consultancy services are dedicated to developing and enhancing financial management skills and expertise in the context of the public service modernisation agenda. From budget management to risk management, public procurement to cost recovery, and financial reporting using accrual accounting to audit and control. These are just a sample of some of the current finance needs that are being met in the public service. Courses range from half-day sessions through to professional accountancy qualifications.
They can be general or tailor-made and targeted to staff at all levels. Please contact us if you feel that we can help in any way.
Public programmes
The Finance Unit of the IPA runs a series of public programmes. These are generic programmes and are open to all. For details of all our programmes, please see the list from our drop down menu or search facility on this page.
The staff of the Finance Unit will work with clients to design, develop and deliver specific accounting, finance and auditing courses where a customised approach is deemed more beneficial than a generic course. In this way the needs of a client can be directly addressed and a detailed approach offered.
The Finance Unit offers the Certificate and Diploma in Finance, which are accredited by the National University of Ireland. These courses, both of ten months duration provide a solid grounding in private and public sector finance and offer participants a pathway to further study either academic or professional. Further sample of accredited programmes we offer are:
Professional Accountancy Qualification
The Institute supports and delivers the programmes leading to the Chartered Institute of Public Finance Accountancy qualification. Indeed, the Certificate and Diploma in Finance is a direct route onto the programme. The Finance team work closely with CIPFA to ensure that this programme is contemporary and relevant for the Irish public service.
Consultancy
