The Leadership & Management training and consulting unit has a long established connection with the Irish public sector. Our in-depth understanding of the demands, responsibilities, initiatives and work environments, provides the group with an unique perspective and insight into the developments, challenges and therefore specific needs of our clients. We offer Public, Local, Accredited and tailored programmes in addition to consultancy services, working in partnership with our clients across the public sector. Public Programmes
The Leadership and Management Unit of the IPA runs a series of public programmes at the IPA premises. These are geared towards the public sector but applicable and open to all.
Local Programmes
The Leadership and Management Unit works with clients to design, develop and deliver courses, tailored to their specific needs. In this way the needs of a client can be directly addressed and a detailed approach offered. Some examples of recent local programmes include:
The Leadership and Management Unit offers Certificate and Diploma courses in a variety of areas within the Leadership and Management arena. These courses are accredited by the NUI and take place in a modular fashion, over one academic year. These include;
Leadership Programmes
A particular area of expertise developed over many years working with senior level /executive personnel on a group or individual basis, is the area of our Leadership programmes. These are typically tailored programmes focused on enhancing existing skills and developing a new range of skills to meet the on-going demands of the various public sector bodies.
Leadership is a crucial element and link in the building and sustaining of effectiveness in organisations and many organisations recognise this. Increasingly they are therefore looking for a range of one day, multiple day/modular programmes to build skills. In addition, they are turning to our suite of individualised leadership programmes, including Coaching, Personal Development, Mentoring Support, in order to provide that rounded development of leadership competency and support.
Some examples of current and recent Leadership programmes designed to meet specific client needs include, e.g., Leadership for Senior Civil Servants, Leadership for Local Authority Curators. With our Leadership in Local Government programme, the County and City Managers Association were involved in the design of the programme, which is also supported by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government.
Consultancy
Due to our partnership relationships with organisations in the private sector we are often requested to review organisational practices, processes and behaviours in light of needs to enhance efficiency, build strengths, refine practices and develop new insights and capabilities. Our training interventions within these organisations are often building on needs identified through consulting or our consulting is forming a symbiotic relationship with our training interventions. They are complementary to each other and through providing consulting and training we can provide a holistic response to clients. We have built a range of consultancy expertise in areas, some of which include; Corporate Planning, Team Facilitation, Performance Appraisals and PMDS.
