The pressure on the local authorities to deliver services with excellence while at the same time demonstrating the most efficient and effective use of resources has never been so great. The demands of `Better Local Government` has, while attempting to improve the system, made many demands of it and in such an environment of change organisations need to draw on many skills and skill levels. These skills or the appropriate skill levels are not always available in an organisation.
The Institute has a small group of specialist staff who work closely with local authorities in designing and delivering services for the local government sector. Our services are currently heavily influenced by the programme of renewal and are aimed at both staff and elected members of local authorities. They also reflect the broad thrust of public sector reform, and the need for local authorities to prepare and implement corporate plans.
We offer a suite of programmes designed to equip local authorities staff with the knowledge and skills they require to carry out their roles effectively. Most of these are tailored to the particular needs of individual local authorities and are delivered in-house.
