Financial Management

The IPA in partnership with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and also in association with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) present this CPD Seminar for Professional Accountants.  Each CPD event will address a topic of specific relevance to professional accountants and finance professionals in the Irish Public Service.  This event is also open to anyone who may have an interest in the event topics.

The theme of the November event is "Financial Leadership for Sustainable Public Finances.

Speakers include:

  • Seamus Coffey
    Seamus is Chair of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council, a position he has held since 1 January 2017, having originally become a member of the Council in 2016.  He is a Lecturer in Economics in the Department of Economics in UCC, with his research and writing focusing on the performance of the Irish economy.

  • Kevin Prendergast
    Kevin joined IAASA in November 2016 following a decade in the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement culminating in his role as Head of Enforcement.  Prior to this, he worked in the Large Cases Division of the Revenue Commissioners.  Kevin also has several years' experience in the private sector including a number of years working in an audit firm.

  • Aidan Horan
    Aidan is a Director at the IPA with overall responsibility for Governance and Assurance Services.  A qualified Accountant, he is leader of the Governance Specialist Team at the Institute and is the founder member of the Governance Forum at the IPA.

  • Breda Rafter
    Breda is an Assistant Principal Officer in the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (DPER) with responsibility for Government Accounting.  She will provide an update on prgress of the financial reporting reform.

  • Neil O'Brien
    In 1998 following a 24-year career in banking, Neil founded Time to Fly! and has since become one of Ireland's top thinkers and speakers on the topic of mental fitness.  Neil has worked with a range of blue chip companies as well as coaching elite and professional sports people on their mental fitness.  He has advised Ryder Cup golfers, pro and elite athletes.

  • Brian Haugh
    Brian heads up the Valuations and Financial Modelling Service in BDO.  He is also a leading member of their Healthcare Consulting Team having specialised in the area since joining the firm in 2012. Brian specialises in advising Public Sector and Healthcare clients in relation to the deployment of capital and development of assets.   He utilises financial modelling tools to assist clients in the completion of feasibility studies, development appraisals, strategic and financial reviews so that they can make fully informed business decisions.
