Fee: The fee for this one day workshop is €405 per person for Corporate Members of the IPA and €450 for others.  Fee includes a light lunch and refreshments.

Cancellation Policy: Please note, that in the event of a cancellation less than 48 working hours before the commencement of a course, a 15% cancellation fee will be charged.  Cancellation fee will also apply to non-arrivals on the day.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this training, participants will have:

  • A clear understanding of the theory and practice of structured and competency based interviewing
  • Guidance on developing an effective questioning style to ensure fairness, and impartiality throughout the process
  • Practical experience of relevant interview techniques which make for effective evidence based interviewing
  • An awareness and understanding of Employment Equality Legislation to ensure they are aware of what questions can, and what questions cannot be asked and why
  • An awareness of how to mark/evaluate candidates fairly and objectively to ensure the Board select the most suitable applicant for the particular vacancy in terms of range and depth of experience and based on evidence
Course Content

The topics that will be addressed during the workshop include:

  • Background and context of competency based interviewing
  • Designing the job specification (job description and person specification)
  • Development of competencies and behavioural indicators
  • What the role requires / examination of criteria and competencies
  • Effective questioning techniques
  • Pre Interview Board Preparation - the role of the Chair on a Board
  • Employment Equality Legislation - what questions we can/cannot ask
  • Candidate assessment, evaluation and feedback
