Courtroom Skills is tutor led and practical.  Particular emphasis is placed on helping individuals build confidence and an assertive manner when cross-examined and to recognise the approaches and techniques that are used by experts and lawyers in a courtroom setting.

This Courtroom Skills / Expert Witness course will run from 9:30am - 4:30pm on scheduled dates.  It will be delivered in person at the Institute of Public Administration and facilitated by a subject matter expert. Course times may be subject to change.

  • 10 May 2024
  • 21 June 2024

Please note that as this is an interactive programme of training with an emphasis on engagement and skill building, we limit the size of the group.  If you wish to book places for a number of staff from a single organisation, we recommend that you contact training@ipa.ie in the first instance, as a tailored programme may be more suitable.

Fee: The cost of this one day course is €505 per person. Lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day and are included in the cost of the in person training course.

All IPA courses are subject to minimum participant numbers and bookings will typically close one week prior to the course start date.

Cancellation Policy: Please note, that in the event of a cancellation less than 48 working hours before the commencement of a course, a 15% cancellation fee will be charged.  Cancellation fee will also apply to non-arrivals on the day.

Who is this for?

Courtroom Skills designed for those who may be required to give evidence in court in a professional capacity.  Participants will learn how to express expert opinion that the court will respect and how to present evidence effectively when under pressure. 

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this training, participants will:

  • Have a practical understanding of what to expect of the day in court
  • Have learned practical courtroom techniques
  • Be able to express an opinion that the court will respect
  • Give effective evidence in court
  • Understand the basics of the rules of evidence
  • Be aware of the approaches used in courts by lawyers and experts
Course Content

The Courtroom Skills course will cover the following areas:

  • Overview of civil litigation and rules of evidence
  • Presenting evidence and effective communication under pressure
  • Courtroom procedures with legal phases explained
  • Practical application of court skills and evidence through cross-examination exercise
