Public Management

Postgraduate Certificates are one-year programmes in which students take the second year of an IPA MA programmes. They allow students, in just one academic year, obtain knowledge and skills in a discrete public management area, thereby improving their career opportunities and gaining insight into the issues that are found in particular public management functions or areas. There are six options:

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Criminal Justice
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Financial Management
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Management
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Human Resource Management
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Strategy
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Local Government

Students attend the IPA on three weekens in the first semester to study relevant modules. In the second semester, they undertake a minor dissertation.

Delivery Method

Postgraduate Certificates are delivered through a student-friendly blended learning model. Students attend three weekend seminars at the IPA and, under expert guidance, prepare a minor dissertation. They are supported in their studies by a range of resources, including bespoke course material and module textbooks.

Applicants must have a primary degree or equivalent qualification. A copy of the qualification should be included along with the application form.

The cost of these programme is €5,700 per annum (includes all matriculation and examination fees, all seminars, textbooks and course material), payable in two instalments.

Note: Fees may increase slightly from year to year. Where this occurs, continuing students will be charged the increased fee.

Is This Programme for you?

New responsibilities at work or changes in career very often mean that instruction in a new field and an extra qualification are necessary. One-year Postgraduate Certificates, in which students take, the specialist subjects of the IPA's suite of MA programme, are designed to meet such needs. A range of options are avilable, including human resource management, financial management, and healthcare management. 

Assessment

Students are generally assessed by means of assignments, final exams and a minor dissertation.

  3. Send the completed application form and copy of your prior qualification to postgrad@ipa.ie.
