Recently transitioned to the IPA, Senior Public Service (SPS) is now responsible for leading senior leadership development initiatives within the Public Service. The primary role of SPS is to design and implement leadership development programmes for senior leaders in order to address critical leadership challenges across the Public Service. SPS oversees the Strategic Leadership Programme, which aligns with the Public Service 2030 Transformation Strategy. This programme builds upon the previous Talent Management Programme by offering a wider range of development opportunities to a broader group of senior leaders within the Public Service.
The focus of the Strategic Leadership Programme is on senior level staff, specifically at the Principal Officer level and above. The goal is to establish a unified strategic approach to enhancing senior leadership capabilities and to expand executive leadership development opportunities throughout all sectors of the Public Service. The programme aims to equip current leaders with the necessary strategic leadership knowledge, skills and expertise needed to navigate the complex and ever-changing operating environment. Additionally, it seeks to cultivate a strong leadership community within the Civil Service, Local Authorities and across the broader Public Service to meet succession planning needs and foster collaborative relationships within and between organisations.
