The challenge for those operating at the AP level is to find a balance between using existing experience and expertise while continuously identifying alternative approaches to improving services and achieving better organisational results.

Strengthening the Assistant Principal Leadership Profile is designed to help more experienced Assistant Principal Officers (APs) reflect on their current capacity and capability to rise to more senior management positions.

It will help more experienced Assistant Principal Officers develop a broader array of skills and approaches to manage a wider breadth of responsibilities and decision making required at more senior management levels. The programme also aims to support APs in delivering on their current leadership expectations, re-freshing and re-affirming effective practices and provides frameworks and models to help relevant delivery results by working with and through others.

The two-day Clerical Officer programme is designed for staff at Clerical Officer (CO) level, whose role is mainly operational, to enable them to contribute fully to the achievement of Departmental goals, particularly in the delivery and implementation of policy. The aim of the Clerical Officer programme is to provide an opportunity for staff of government departments, offices and state agencies, to develop the competencies required to be effective in the Clerical Officer role and to acquire a firm understanding of what is expected from civil servants and how this differs from working in other sectors.

The two day Executive Officer programme is designed for staff at Executive Officer (EO) level whose role is part operational and part management, to enable them to successfully undertake their functions and to contribute fully to the achievement of Departmental goals. The aim of the programme is to provide an opportunity for staff of government departments, offices and state agencies, to develop the competencies required to be effective in the Executive Officer role and to acquire a firm understanding of what is expected from civil servants and how this differs from working in other sectors.

The aim of the Higher Executive Officer (HEO) programme is to further participants’ development as middle managers to enable them to manage their own and others’ work to a high standard and thus contribute to the achievement of their organisation’s priorities. The course will cover the key competency areas of managing change, influencing and persuading, staff management, work organisation and performance management. This programme is designed for staff at Higher Executive Officer level in Government Departments, Offices and State Agencies.
