Project Management training at the Institute includes short courses such as an Introduction to Project Management and Fundamentals of Programme Management and professionally accredited programmes such as Prince2® 7 Foundation, Prince2® 7 Practitioner and PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP).  Our current Project Management and allied training programmes are listed below.

The APMG International Agile Project Management (AgilePM®) Foundation Certification addresses the needs of those working in a dynamic and project-focused environment. Based on the proven fundamentals of the Agile Business Consortium's framework, this certification provides enables the delivery of projects in organisations requiring standards, rigor and visibility while at the same time enabling the fast pace, change and empowerment provided by Agile. This allows a degree of scope and agility that not many other methodologies provide.

PRINCE2® is a well-established project management methodology used in business and government. It provides a proven best practice model that helps ensure project delivery is on time, on budget, of high quality and meets customer requirements. The PRINCE2® 7 Foundation Exam Preparation Course and Certification is a three-day intensive, instructor-led course designed to teach participants the fundamental building blocks of the PRINCE2® approach and to prepare them for the PRINCE2® 7 Foundation Certificate exam.

The PRINCE2® 7 Practitioner Course and Certification is a comprehensive two-day intensive, instructor-led course designed to give participants an extended theoretical and practical knowledge of PRINCE2® 7 and to prepare them for the PRINCE2® 7 Practitioner Certificate exam.

Project management skills have never been more in demand. There is a clear need for a shift in the public service to a project management approach to effectively deliver on business plans. Properly implemented, the project management approach ensures understanding, focus, confidence, oversight and success.  This two-day project management in practice training programme is designed to enable you to apply your learning immediately, in a flexible, non-prescriptive manner that takes account of the practicalities of working in the public service.

DTMethod® is an APMG accredited Design Thinking approach which comprises a set of rules, guidelines and tools that help structure a Design Thinking initiative. The DTMethod® brings a predictable and easy to implement process to a highly dynamic environment.

The DTMethod® Foundation Course certification scheme supports the learning requirements of individuals and organizations who want to understand, adopt, and adapt the DTMethod®.

Design Thinking is an approach gaining more and more recognition around the world. It serves to raise creativity levels while designing new products and processes while minimising cost. Design Thinking is a tool which helps create innovations and improvements to existing products to meet the needs and changing expectations of users. It is recognised as one of the most reliable methods used in the pre-project phase to assess the cost-effectiveness of a proposal and how the project deliverable will deliver as many benefits to the organization and customer as possible.
The DTMethod® is based on three core elements: 

  • DTTools, with up to 20 tools available
  • DTRules and DTRoles, consisting of the rules and roles to follow when applying the DTMethod®
  • DTMethod® Implementation, or the process for combining the Tools, Rule and Roles.

Public Servants are faced with increasing expectations, shifting priorities as well as an increasingly complex, ambiguous and uncertain environment. Delivering government and organisational strategy requires a capability in project, programme and portfolio management.

This two-day Fundamentals of Programme Management course focuses on the unique challenges and opportunities of delivering complex programmes in the public sector and private sector alike. It concentrates on providing a firm understanding and grounding in programme management, so that participants are better equipped to further develop their skills in transformational change.

As well as covering the principles and practices of programme management, participants are also introduced to the main programme management methodologies, helping individuals and organisations wishing to develop their own in-house programme management practices.

PMI Agile Certified Practitioner is a highly-interactive, three-day, instructor-led course prepares participants for the PMI-ACP (Project Management Institute-Agile Certified Practitioner) Accreditation; a world-wide recognition of knowledge of Agile principles, practices and tools and techniques across Agile methodologies. If you already use Agile practices or your organisation is adopting Agile methods, earning the PMI-ACP® certification will demonstrate your knowledge of and commitment to this rapidly growing approach to project management. This course covers the topics required for the PMI-ACP certification and includes practical activities related to the Agile Lifecycle. The course is very interactive with real activities related to the Agile Lifecycle activities. The course qualifies for 21 contact hours as required by the PMI for this certification. Price does not include cost of exam and students must book their exam slot with recognised providers.

Participants may choose not to take the exam in which case they will receive an IPA Certificate of Attendance.

This two-day course provides a practical introduction to Business Process Innovation (BPI). It combines a training and workshop approach and equips participants with a structured, systematic approach to running BPI projects. As a result, participants will be better placed to achieve improved and streamlined business processes that align with public service organisations’ remits and make best use of available resources. It is aimed at public servants who are charged with the design and implementation of new ways of working, as programme champion or manager, project team leader or project team member. It is also of benefit to anyone interested in achieving greater organisational effectiveness and efficiency including project stakeholders and those who need more incisive insights into their existing activities.
