The CompTIA A+ certification is an entry-level qualification in the Information Technology (IT) industry. Issued by CompTIA, the A+ certification is widely accepted as an industry standard certification often used to start a career in IT. The certification is awarded after a candidate successfully passes two exams which cover the domains of Mobile Devices, Networking, Hardware, Virtualisation and Cloud Computing, Hardware and Network Troubleshooting, Operating Systems, Security, Software Troubleshooting and Operational Procedures.

Key Facts

This CompTIA A+ course is a closed event for students on the Move2ICT Programme. The course will be delivered in-person at the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) at 57-61 Lansdowne Road, Dublin D04 TC62. 

Participants will attend training sessions at the IPA which will be instructor led and which will involve presentations, practical work and discussion group activity. A significant element of the course is the self-study which participants will undertake in their own time. Students will have access to CompTIA’s online learning platform to facilitate this and the instructor will be available throughout. 

NOTE: participants will need to be in possession of a laptop with a supported browser such as Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Safari. For self-study a good broadband connection will also be required. When attending the IPA classes please ensure your laptop is fully charged. 

The programme will be delivered and facilitated by a qualified subject matter expert. Graduating students will receive a world-wide recognised qualification from industry leader CompTIA. 

Accreditation

Successful candidates will be awarded a CompTIA A+ Certificate.

CompTIA does not set any pre-requisites for the A+ certification but does recommend that candidates have hands-on experience in the lab or in the field.

Cancellation Policy: Please note, that in the event of a cancellation less than 48 working hours before the commencement of the programme, a 15% cancellation fee will be charged. Cancellation fee will also apply to non-arrivals on the day.

Assessment

Certification is awarded on successful sitting of two exams. Candidates must pass both exams to be awarded the A+ certification.

Each exam is a 90 minute exam with 90 questions made up of multiple choice, drag and drops and performance based questions.

Other Information

While you are studying in the IPA you can avail of all facilities. This includes the library which can often provide a location for quiet study. On the days you attend classes, you will be provided with refreshments and lunch. Note paper and pens will also be provided. Wi-Fi access is available to all students. No password is required.  

The IPA is easily accessible by bus and DART. Onsite parking is available on a first come first served basis.  There is paid on-street parking and paid parking available at the Aviva Stadium which a short distanct from the IPA on Lansdowne Road. 

Course Leader

The CompTIA A+ course will be led by Feargal O’Neill who has many years experience in the IT industry having worked in the public and private sectors in Ireland and abroad.

Feargal holds a BA (IT Mgt), MBS (eBus), Adv Dip Project Management and certifications from bodies such as CompTIA, ISACA, IAPP and the PMI. He is a senior associate with the IPA and delivers training in Data Protection, Project Management and IT subjects.
